Welcome to Yatra Counseling!
Yatra is the Sanskrit word for “journey”, and I believe that therapy is a journey to wellness and personal growth. Through this journey, I can help you manage mental illness symptoms, work through relationship issues, and cope with difficult transitions in life.
I believe that my clients are the experts on their own lived experiences. As a first-generation Indian-American, I am committed to making the therapy room a safe space for clients of all cultures and identities to express and define themselves. I am especially passionate about working with folks of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ identities and with folks in ethically non-monogamous (ENM) relationships.
My therapeutic approach uses evidence-based and culturally-sensitive techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-based stress reduction, and Person-centered therapy to help you develop coping skills and define the future they want to have. As a relational therapist, I also believe that even the best relationships can have their challenges. To overcome these challenges, I incorporate the Gottman method to improve interpersonal communication and help you and your loved ones increase your appreciation for one another.
I am in-network with Aetna, Asuris NW, Cigna, Premera, and First Choice Health Network. If you are interested in scheduling a free, 15-minute phone consultation with me, please send me an email at michelle@yatracounseling.com .
